EquiSol NZ Ltd was founded by the late Bill Lumsden and Kym Murdoch, with a clear focus from the beginning: creating a fencing system that is safer for horses, easy to install, and cost effective across a whole property. Bill developed the original system to protect his own horses, and together he and Kym recognised it could help horse owners around New Zealand who wanted a better alternative to traditional fencing.
Today, EquiSol has been trusted by Kiwi horse owners for years, with long-standing customer relationships and fence lines still going strong 10 years on. The system is designed to be highly visible, practical to maintain, and tidy enough to look great on any property — from lifestyle blocks to larger horse operations.
Kym now owns and runs EquiSol NZ, continuing the legacy Bill created — with friendly support, proven products, and ongoing development to meet the needs of real New Zealand horse properties.

What is the EquiSol System?
EquiSol is a 1.4m horse fencing system that typically runs three 40mm tapes to create a clear, eye-level boundary horses can see and respect. It’s also highly versatile — EquiSol can be used to create yards and round pens quickly and easily.
Tape & conductivity
- Each 40mm tape contains 12 tough 0.20mm stainless steel wires, delivering excellent conductivity, long life, and minimal corrosion.
- Research suggests green, brown and black are the easiest colours for horses to see, which helps the fence line stand out as a clear boundary. (Link: Equine colour vision)
Locking insulators (no strainers required for most fences)
- The tape is locked at every post, which removes the need for strainer posts (except where you’re hanging a solid gate) — a major cost saving.
- Corners are formed by setting posts in a gentle arc, which helps eliminate corner traps.
Installation (quick and simple)
- Space posts 4.0–4.5m apart (recommended).
- Screw on the EquiSol insulators.
- Roll out the tape, pull tight, and lock it off at each post as you go.
The locking insulators and recommended spacing reduce excessive movement in the wind, helping prevent wear and damage to the tape.
Repairs & maintenance
- If there’s a mishap (like a falling branch or tree), it usually only affects that section — the rest of the fence stays tight and secure.
- If a tape sags, simply loosen the insulators for 5–6 posts either side, allow the tape to return to tension, then re-tighten.
- If a tape breaks, fit a joiner. Quick and simple.
Can it be used on existing fences?
Yes — EquiSol can be adapted to fit most existing fence lines.
